The Leo Barnes Perpetual Trophy

  The Leo Barnes Perpetual Trophy has been awarded since 2017 to the Biomed        judged to have presented the best paper at the SMBE Country Technicians' Conference

Life member Leo Barnes donated the trophy in 2017

The trophy was first presented to Leo by Medical Equipment Management

in the 1980s In appreciation for his hard work and dedication in support of

BME Technicians and the Australian BME Industry

The best presentation is judged by the conference delegates and earns the winner the trophy, a framed certificate and a gift card

THE LEO BARNES PERPETUAL TROPHY

The trophy is the "Standard Test Finger" which was used by testing laboratories in the testing medical electrical equipment. The finger probes the equipment to a certain depth to represent how far a human finger can intrude into a medical device. The finger can be used in a straight or bent configuration.
