Bruce Morrison

President

Bruce Morrison has an electrical engineering degree from UNSW and a Master of Applied Science in Clinical Measurement from UTS. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, a chartered professional engineer and is registered on the National Engineers Register.

He has previously been President, Vice President and Honorary Secretary of the SMBE NSW and will be working over the next two years to prepare the next generation of leaders to take the SMBE NSW forward.

He has been chairman and deputy chairman of the Board of the College of Biomedical Engineers, and Deputy Chair of the National Committee for Clinical Engineering.

He is the convenor of the annual SMBE biomedical engineering conference.

Peter Morcom

Immediate Past President

Peter Morcom has worked in industry over many years and was the proprietor of Chivaune Consulting before selling the business and retiring in 2019.

Peter has been a member of the SMBE Council since the mid-2000s and has been Acting President and President from 2020 to 2024.

Peter has organised the business side of the annual Country Technicians' Conference including the venue, catering, sponsors and trade exhibitors.

He is looking forward to mentoring the next generation of SMBE Council members, particularly in terms of the trade and venue side of the annual conference.

Donald Hazra

Vice President

Donald Hazra, holding a Master of Biomedical Engineering from UNSW, is a Solutions Manager – Biomedical Engineering at Sydney Local Health District and a member of Engineers Australia, based in Sydney.

With over 15 years of experience, he has been a consistent SMBE delegate and presenter. Now, Donald is keen to pursue a more active leadership role within SMBE, dedicated to driving its future. He is passionate about enhancing professional development, practical learning, and collaborative initiatives within the field, reflecting SMBE's mission to connect biomedical engineers, service technicians, students, and industry leaders to promote technical excellence

Bob Smith

Honorary Secretary / Treasurer

Bob Smith is a Biomed which vast experience in both the public and private biomedical engineering industry.

Bob worked for NSW Health at Price Henry Hospital in Sydney before embarking on a career as an engineer with several international medical equipment suppliers including Draeger Australia and Philips Healthcare. Bob retired from Philips in 2023.

Bob has been Treasurer since 2023 and takes on the combined Secretary/Treasurer portfolio from 2025.
